Abai Village

The history of Abai Village can be traced back to the end of the Korean War when refugees who fled from North Korea gathered here and formed this village. After the war, these refugees were unable to return to their northern hometowns and thus settled down here, gradually developing it into a port city.

Today, Abai Village is a small and quiet village where people still live. There is a sashimi street and many coffee shops in the village. In the afternoon, you can find a coffee shop in the village to have a cup of coffee or order a plate of sashimi in a restaurant to taste the flavor of the sea, and spend a leisurely and pleasant afternoon.

Abai Village is only a short ferry ride from Sokcho City. Tourists can get a glimpse of the traditional culture of North Korea here. The village is famous for its unique handicrafts, including hand-woven textiles, traditional clothing and pottery. These items are not only beautiful but also rich in cultural connotations, making them the best souvenirs for travelers.
