Dosan Seowon Academy

Andong Dosan Seowon Academy is one of the most historically rich academic sanctuaries in South Korea, located in Andong City, North Gyeongsang Province. Founded in 1557 by the renowned Confucian scholar Yi Hang during the Joseon Dynasty, the academy aimed to educate Confucian scholars and disseminate Confucianism. After Yi Hang's death, the academy was established in his honor to commemorate his great scholarship and noble character.

Nestled against the mountains, the academy's black-tiled and red-walled buildings are hidden among green trees, creating a serene and elegant environment. In front lies the shimmering Andong Lake, and behind are lush pine forests, making it a place brimming with poetic charm. The traditional Korean houses and elegant courtyards within the academy embody the essence of Eastern Confucian thought, turning it into a tranquil and intellectually enriching learning space.

In 2019, Dosan Seowon Academy was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
