Heo Gyun, Heo Nanseolhen Memorial Park


Heo Gyun (1569 - 1618, pen-name: Gyosan) was an intellectual who aspired for political and social innovation during the mid-Joseon Period (1392 - 1910). He wrote Honggildongjeon (story of Hong Gil-dong), the first novel written in Hangeul (Korean alphabet). His sister Heo Cho-hui (1563 - 1589; pen-name: Nanseolheon) was a poet whose ingenuity was recognized even in China and Japan.

This park was built in honor of the famous literary siblings who were born in the area, Diverse attractions in the park include Site of Birthplace of Heo Nanseolheon (Gangwon-do Culural Heritage material No.59), Heo Gyun and Heo Nanseolhen Memorial Hall, Traditional Tea Experience Center, Statue of Heo Nanseolheon, Monument for the Five Writers of Heo Clan, Site of Hoseojangseogak, etc.
