Udo Island

Udo Island is a small island located in the eastern sea of Jeju Island, adjacent to Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak. It covers an area of approximately 6.07 square kilometers. The outline of the entire island resembles a water buffalo lying quietly on the sea surface, hence its name "Udo Island". This small island is renowned for its unique natural landscapes and cultural features, and has been affectionately given several alternative names such as "Coral Island", "Haenyeo Island", and "Lighthouse Island".

Udo Island is one of the famous places where the Haenyeo culture is passed down. The female fishermen on the island have been passing down the unique diving fishing skills from generation to generation. With their astonishing lung capacity and proficient skills, they dive into the deep sea without any auxiliary equipment to collect shellfish and seaweed, creating a unique sight.

Udo Island is also famous for its iconic lighthouse. The Udo Island Lighthouse, built in 1909, is not only an important navigation guidance facility but also the most representative landmark on the island. Nowadays, the area around the lighthouse has become one of the best spots for tourists to enjoy the sunset.
