Sangumburi Crater

Sangumburi is a crater with a circumference of over 2 kilometers and is a protected natural site. It is located on the flat land in the southeast of Jeju Island, with a diameter of 650 meters, a depth of 100 meters, and a circumference of 2,070 meters. When viewed from the air, Sangumburi Crater resembles an artificially built circular stadium.

Jeju Island has many parasitic volcanoes, but except for Sangumburi Crater, all the others have been covered and piled up by the lava after the eruption. Only the crater of Sangumburi was not spewed out by the lava and volcanic ash during the eruption, protected by rocks, forming the current crater. Such a volcano is called a low and flat crater, and it is the only one of its kind in South Korea and very rare in the world.

It is not a popular tourist attraction on Jeju Island. Usually, there are few visitors here, and most of the time, it is a quiet wilderness.
