Is $5000 enough for a trip to Japan?

If you plan for a trip to Japan with 5000 USD, you can expect at least a week trip to visit Japan (not luxury style).

As you can see, a basial cost for a Japan tour is mainly including flight, hotels, transport, entrance fee and guide if you needed a guided tour, meals and personal shopping consumers.

  • International flight to Japan mainly depends on which country you are coming from.  Flight tickets is normally 1000 USD~3000 USD per person.
  • Hotels will be depending on which hotel level you required. Like a normally 3-star hotel level is 70 USD~100 USD per person per night. But for 5-star hotel level, USD130-220/person/night. Some luxury hotels rate can be over 250 USD per person per night.
  • For the transport, If you are a budget traveler, You can also choose to explore the city on your own with subway/local train. One day Tokyo subway 24-hour Ticket is only 800 Yen(less than 5 USD per person). And one bus/subway ride is only from 230 Yen~ Free Travelling is very cheap, but it comes with disadvantage of loneliness, safety etc.

If you choose a guided tour, the price will be much higher, as the labor fee is costly. A Tour package including van, entrance fee and guides. The price varied with group number and your travel style. Like for 2pax, one day by private guided tour price will be over 350 USD per day. But if you take a coach tour or a guided tour with public transport, price is around 150~200 USD per person per day. The advantage is a totally worry-free tour!

  • Meals in Japan is around 1000~3000 Yen(8~20 USD) per person per meal. For a middle range of meal is 20·70 USD per meal per person. For some fancy kaiseki cuisine, seafood, French, Kobe beef etc, price will be over 100 USD per person per meal. So, it is really depending on what kind of foods you want to eat.
  • Shopping in Japan. Japan is a shopping paradise! With many traditional souvenirs, handicrafts, electronics, It's easy to get caught up in the shopping. Better with more money plan if you are a shopping lover.
