Japan offers a completely different landscape throughout the year. The best month to visit Japan depends on what kind of landscapes you're looking to experience: Also, the truth is there's no such time as the best, because where there's good, there's bad. I would like to list the pros and cons at each month for you choose easier!

1. Spring– Cherry Blossom Season

Time: March, April, May

Pros:

  • Weather: Pleasant temperatures (around 10°C to 25°C). Warm and sunny, sometimes rain.
  • Best time to Seeing the iconic cherry blossoms (sakura).

Cons:

  • Big crowds.
  • High price.

Suggestion:

Normally the cherry blossom season is at the end of March to the first of April. Actually, you don’t have to wait until mid-March or April, at the early of March with fewer crowds and cheap price, warm weather and you can also enjoy the flowers as well in the eastern of Japan like Hakone Matsuda Town, Atami, Kyushu. So, Personally, if you plan a spring trip to Japan, early March will be a best time.

2. Summer- Festival season

Time: Jun, July, August, September

Pros:

  • Experiencing traditional summer festivals like Tanabata, Gion Matsuri, and the Obon festival, fireworks displays.

Cons:

  • Hot and humid, with temperatures often above 30°C

Suggestion:

It seems not a very good time to visit Japan unless you like the colorful festival. June with much rain, July to September is too hot and occasional typhoons. Although it is not a very good time to visit Japan, but if you plan a trip to Japan on Summer, we recommend Hokkaido. Hokkaido July and August is the best time to enjoy Lavender and summer flowers in Furano. The majority of lavender usually starts blooming in late June and reaches its peak from around mid-July to early August, You may not want to miss the Hokkaido Lavender Tour!

3. Autumn – Autumn Foliage season

Time: October and November

Pros:

  • Good time to enjoy the autumn foliage
  • Good weather with little rain than Spring, allow you to see the clear skies and vibrant leaves.
  • Fewer crowds compared with cherry blossom season

Cons:

  • Popular viewing spots can become crowded as Spring too
  • Require careful planning to secure the best viewing experiences
  • Some viewing places are a little far away from the city. Not convenient to go by public transport.

Suggestion:

October and November Autum times seem an ideal time to visit Japan. And November is better than October as October is at the beginning of Autumn foliage. The Late autumn landscapes is the most beautiful. Recommend city: Kyoto, Mt. Fuji, Nikko, and the Japanese Alps is spectacular.

  • Except snow, less greenery view

Suggestion:

Winter to Japan, the best place is Hokkaido too! There are Sapporo Snow Festival, very good snow for skiing, and the delicious winter season food! Tokyo, Mt, Fuji and Takayama are also good place to experience a winter view and a winter Onsen! Winter trip is suitable for the kind of winter lover!
