Bulguksa Temple

Bulguksa Temple is a grand ancient temple with lifelike statues of Bodhisattvas and other deities. As the national temple of the Silla Dynasty (57 BC - 935 AD), it has been through the thousand-year-old splendid Buddhist culture of Silla and is a precious Buddhist relic. Built in the 8th century, it was constructed with the highest architectural technology and artistic sense of that time and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List together with Seokguram Grotto in 1995.

Unlike other temples in South Korea, Bulguksa Temple is built on a 100-meter-long stone. Below the stone is the "human world", and above it is the "Bodhisattva world". The steps between the two represent the "path" from the human world to the Pure Land where Bodhisattvas reside. The temple houses many national treasures, among which the most representative are the Dabotap Pagoda and Seokgatap Pagoda in front of the Daeungjeon Hall. Both pagodas are made by processing and stacking stones, reflecting the exquisite architectural skills of the Silla Dynasty.
