Changgyeonggung Palace, one of the five major palaces in Seoul, was built in 1418 after Changdeokgung Palace and served as one of the residences for the royal family of the Joseon Dynasty. It was destroyed in the early 17th century during a period of social unrest and was rebuilt in 1616. During the Japanese occupation of Korea, the Japanese downgraded it to Changgyeongwon and used it as a zoo. To eliminate the remnants of Japanese rule, with the joint efforts of the Korean people, the restoration of its original palace appearance began in 1987.
Changgyeonggung Palace is relatively small in scale but has a serene environment and is worth a visit.
