Gamcheon Culture Village is located at the foot of a mountain. It is a village formed by houses arranged in a stepped pattern and is famous for its colorful houses and artistic atmosphere, earning it the nickname "Korean Santorini". Here, visitors can see houses with various themes, as well as various art installations and sculptures in the alleys. The main attractions include murals, sculptures, art workshops, and a viewing platform with a panoramic view.
There are also many cultural experience programs here, including metal craft making, comic craft making, pottery making, and Korean paper lantern making. Experience activities need to be reserved in advance.
Originally, this place was a refugee settlement formed after the Korean War in the 1950s, with a stepped shantytown built along the mountain. In 2009, the Busan government launched the "Art Village Project", and over 70 artists participated in the renovation, revitalizing the community through murals and installation art. In 2012, it won the "UN-Habitat Scroll of Honor Award for Urban Landscape in Asia", becoming a global model for the artistic revival of slums.
