Gyeongbokgung Palace

Gyeongbokgung Palace was the main palace of the Joseon Dynasty, the last unified dynasty on the Korean Peninsula, and the political center in the early period of the Joseon Dynasty. The area and layout of the palace strictly followed the tributary relationship with China, the suzerain state, and was built in accordance with the regulations for the palaces of Chinese princes. All the buildings were painted in cyan to distinguish them from the yellow of the Chinese imperial palaces.

Gyeongbokgung Palace was first built in 1395 and has undergone multiple destructions and reconstructions. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was largely demolished and damaged due to war. Only a few symbolic buildings such as the main hall, Geunjeongjeon, and the pavilion, Gyeonghoeru, were fortunate enough to remain intact. It was not until 1995 that it was reconstructed on a large scale, restoring its historical size and appearance.

Gyeongbokgung Palace is located in the center of Seoul, covering an area of 58 hectares. It is the largest and most magnificent of the five palaces in Seoul.
