Noboribetsu Bear Park

The Noboribetsu Bear Park is a rare zoo even in Japan, located on a mountain top within the Shikotsu-Tōya National Park. At the foot of the mountain lies the Noboribetsu Onsen Town, and not far away is the famous Noboribetsu Jigokudani. Visitors can reach it by taking a sightseeing cable car.

In the park, Farming, observing and studying of brown bears started in 1958 and recorded a major success. The numbers of bears are now over a sixty, from only eight at the beginning. Here, you can observe Hokkaido brown bears up close, and the experience of feeding them is also very interesting. They can catch the food very flexibly.

There is a unique brown bear museum in the park, and the roof of the building is the Lake Kuttara observatory. The view from the observatory is wide and open, allowing you to see the lake, Noboribetsu Onsen Town and the Pacific Ocean. It is worth mentioning that Kuttara Lake is a nearly perfect circular crater lake. Standing in the view, one can't help but marvel at the magical power of nature.
