Blue Pond

In 1988, the Tokachi-dake volcano in Daisetsuzan National Park erupted. To prevent mudslides from damaging nearby areas, the authorities of Biei Town built an erosion control dam, which unexpectedly formed a pond, now known as the Blue Pond. Due to the large amount of aluminum hydroxide particles in the water of the Blue Pond, every morning, under the sunlight, the water reflects a color similar to the classic Tiffany blue, and the entire surface of the pond is like a canvas, breathtakingly beautiful.
