Ninen-zaka and Sannen-zaka are two historic streets in Kyoto, located near Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and are one of the city's famous tourist attractions. Ninen-zaka was built in 807, while the adjacent Sannen-zaka was constructed in 808. Both streets are lined with mostly Edo-period wooden houses. Today, they are filled with traditional shops and local snacks, making them the most humanized streets in Kyoto.
Ninen-zaka is the inevitable way to reach Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Along the way, you can enjoy many ancient Japanese wooden buildings and scenic views. When you stop here, you will surely see some people strolling in kimonos, giving you a sense of time travel.
