Shitennoji Temple

Shitennoji Temple was built by Prince Shotoku in 593 and is the earliest Buddhist temple in Japan as well as the oldest official temple. The south gate, the middle gate, the five-story pagoda, the main hall and the lecture hall are lined up in a straight line from north to south within the temple, and the exterior is surrounded by corridors. This is known as the Shitennoji style, one of the oldest styles in Japan.

The temple has been destroyed and rebuilt many times, but it still retains the imposing appearance of the Asuka period when it was first built, fully demonstrating the long history of the temple and its status in the hearts of the people of Osaka.
