Suwa Shrine

Suwa City is located in the southern part of Nagano Prefecture, about two and a half hours' drive from Tokyo. It is an industrial city on the southern shore of Lake Suwa and also a tourist city with famous attractions such as the Kamisuwa Hot Spring, the Kamisha Hongu of Suwa Taisha Shrine, and the Yatsugatake Mountain Range. After World War II, the production of watches, cameras and lenses gradually flourished. Modern technology and the local mountain and lake landscapes coexist in harmony, earning it the title of "Oriental Switzerland". There are also many local sake breweries, including Masumi, Maihime, Beauty, Honjin, and Yokoflute.

The Suwa Taisha Shrine is composed of four independent shrines, each with its own unique charm and appeal. These include Kamisha Hongu and Kamisha Maemiya on the southern shore of Lake Suwa, as well as Shimosha Akimiya and Shimosha Harumiya on the northern shore. It takes about 30 minutes by car to travel between the Kamisha complex and the Shimosha complex.

Kamisha Hongu continues to preserve a significant number of historical structures. During summer, the tall and lush surrounding trees create a refreshingly cool environment. A visit is highly recommended for those interested in cultural heritage and natural beauty.
