Hokkaido Shrine

Hokkaido Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Sapporo city. It was built in 1870 by the Meiji government to honor the gods of Hokkaido's development. The main building, Tondo Hall, has a roof constructed with two thick wooden beams crossed over each other. The interior is simple and secular, with a strong Japanese flavor, and there are no statues or memorial tablets.

The shrine's grounds are lush with greenery and offer a pleasant environment. Squirrels can often be seen there. Especially in spring, when cherry blossoms and plum blossoms are in full bloom, it attracts countless flower enthusiasts.
