Kasuga Taisha Shrine

Kasuga Taisha is a shrine located within Nara Park, established in 710 AD, with a history of over 1,300 years. Kasugayama, as the sacred mountain of Kasuga Taisha, has been off-limits to logging for a thousand years, thus forming a primeval forest. It, along with Kasuga Taisha, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as an inseparable landscape.

The architectural feature of the shrine is the main hall composed of four adjacent shrines. The vermilion corridor surrounding the main hall contrasts beautifully with the green jungle at the foot of Kasugayama, together with the lanterns hanging from the eaves and the shrines, creating a charming landscape.
