Tenryu-ji Temple

Tenryu-ji Temple was first built in the middle of the 13th century and is partially hidden among the woods of Arashiyama Mountain. The temple garden, which borrows the scenery of Kameyama and Arashiyama, integrates the elegance of noble culture and the mystery of Zen Buddhism. Due to its long history and design by famous masters, the temple garden has been listed as a Japanese national special historical site.

There are numerous buildings within the temple, making it interesting to visit all year round. The famous Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is located to the north of the temple. If you want to visit the bamboo grove first, you can enter the temple through the north gate via the bamboo grove path. Conversely, you can enter Arashiyama from Togetsukyo Bridge, enter the temple through the main gate, and then exit through the north gate after your visit. Next, follow the bamboo grove path to visit Nonomiya Shrine.
