Todaiji Temple

Among the many ancient temples in Nara, Todaiji Temple is the one that must not be missed. It is the largest wooden structure in the world and the home of Japan's largest Buddha statue.

Todaiji Temple has a history of over 1,200 years. The front width of the temple's Great Buddha Hall is 57 meters and its depth is 50 meters. Inside the hall, the Buddha statue stands at a height of 15 meters. In 1998, Todaiji Temple was listed as a World Heritage Site as part of the historical monuments of ancient Nara.
